The University Writing Center (UWC) is looking for exceptional undergraduates to begin working as peer writing and speaking consultants this fall.
As a UWC consultant, you’ll help your fellow Aggies improve their written and spoken communication, tutoring students in person, on Zoom, and via email. In addition, you may present workshops or represent the UWC at campus functions.
Do you need to be a grammar nerd to work here? Nope. You do need to have excellent writing and speaking skills, be a serious student, be willing to work hard, and feel comfortable talking to people. We hire students from all majors!
As a consultant, you’ll earn tutoring certification from the College Reading and Learning Association, and we’ll pay you for the time you spend attending trainings.
Undergraduate writing consultants will be paid $14 an hour with the potential to earn up to $17 after additional professional development. Graduate students enrolled in a masters program will begin at $15 an hour and those in a doctoral program will begin at $17 an hour, with the potential to earn raises after completing additional professional development. Consultants are paid for all time spent in training.
All new writing and speaking consultants MUST be a TAMU student through at least spring of 2025, be available in the fall on Wednesday mornings from 8:15 to 10:00 a.m. to attend a weekly staff meeting and a zero-credit training class, and attend a professional development session the Saturday before school starts in the fall.
We are currently reviewing applications and scheduling interviews, so if this job sounds like something you’d be good at, apply now.
