Write Line
Write Line Spring 2025
Write Line is a virtual graduate student writing group conducted via Zoom. Graduate students in any area of study are welcome to apply. Write Line provides a productive virtual writing space so that participants can stay accountable to their writing goals.
Please read the updated description as the format of Write Line has changed:
- Participants meet once a week for two and a half hours each session to write. Writing means brainstorming, outlining, generating, or revising texts. Write Line is not a time for grading or running data analyses– it is dedicated writing time!
- Each group has a dedicated facilitator who provides brief revision and writing techniques at the beginning of each session. These tips can be applied during your Write Line time.
- Participants will log their goals for the day in a shared document for the accountability and community of striving toward goals together.
- Participants with quick writing questions can get answers from the facilitator via the Zoom chat function.
- At the end of each session, the groups briefly reconvene to add their writing progress and share future goals.
Write Line is about building a regular writing routine, but we recognize that graduate students have many commitments that are scheduled or arranged beyond their control. If you miss your Write Line session for the week, you may join another session and report your goals in your assigned group’s writing progress log. Due to the popularity of Write Line, students who miss more than two weeks of Write Line will be removed from the program.
NOTE: Write Line is not a class or workshop. It is an accountability group, designed to keep you motivated. The focus is only on writing and not toward non-writing activities such as grading or other meetings.
Missed the initial sign-up window for Write Line? No worries! Write Line registration is open until February 19th for anyone who would like to join late!
