We recommend that PHYS 328 Experimental Physics II be certified as a Communication (C) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 80% of the final grade is based on writing and speaking quality; (2) the total number of words is 1500; (3) the total minutes of performance is 12; (4) the instructor to student ratio is 1:7; and (5) the assigned writing and speaking are appropriate to the major.

A teaching assistant helps with this one-credit course. Students present on an experiment performed in lab and write three lab reports. For speaking feedback, student submit drafts of their slides and speaking notes for instructor feedback For writing feedback, the first lab report gets written instructor comments that can be used to revise before a grade is assigned. Instruction includes the use of examples, a sample presentation given by the instructor, and advice on how to use and prepare appropriate presentations and lab reports in physics.
