REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF C COURSE: MKTG 321
 
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/23 to 1/1/27
 
We recommend that MKTG 321 Marketing be certified as a Communication (C) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 34.5% of the final grade is based on writing and speaking quality; (2) the total number of words is 3000; (3) the total minutes of performance is 5; (4) the instructor to student ratio is 1:25; and (5) the assigned writing and speaking are appropriate to the major.
 
The course is grandfathered for collaboration. Students write a business report individually and also write 5 exercises collaboratively. Slides for the promotion presentation are also included in the word count—these are submitted for formative feedback on one of three presentations. The three presentations include the promotion presentation, for which each student is required to present for 2 minutes, a practice presentation on a different topic related to the class, and two practices for the promotion presentation using iVideo and iPresent, which also serve as drafts and for a formative feedback opportunity. Instruction includes multiple lectures on oral communication in face-to-face and virtual formats, detailed rubrics, and lecture on best practices in writing using examples. Data visualization and slide design are also covered.
