REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: MARA 440
 
CERTIFICATION PERIOD:  1/1/2023 to 1/1/2027
 
We recommend that MARA 440 Global Economy and Enterprise Management be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 48% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 10,000; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:11; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
 
A graduate assistant helps with MARA 440. Writing includes 26 daily assignments, each of 350-400 words, and a term paper. The term paper gets formative instructor comments on a draft and on occasion peer review is used. The daily assignments also provide students with frequent feedback A librarian speak to the class about defining a research question, doing research, and APA style. A class is devoted to discussion of other writing issues such as paper requirements and general issues that appear in the daily writing.
