REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: KINE 435

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/25 to 9/1/29

We recommend that KINE 435 Physiology of Exercise Laboratory be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 70% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 6,600; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:20; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.

KINE 435’s individual writing component consists of four lab reports and three in-class writing assignments. Students receive formative feedback via instructor comments during class on the three in-class assignments, and peer workshops on each other’s lab reports. Writing instruction takes place via lecture on in-class writing days, and educational pamphlets that include models for writing a lab report, as well as referring students to UWC resources.
