REPORT ON CERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: ISEN 350
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/25 to 9/1/29
We recommend that ISEN 350 Quality Engineering be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 33% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 16,700; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 3:50; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
ISEN 350‘s writing component consists of seven lab reports, six short response problem sets, and an autobiography. The feedback students receive on initial lab reports and problem sets will serve as formative feedback on subsequent assignments in these categories. Writing instruction will be provided on a weekly basis on specific topics, including writing fundamentals, genre conventions, and the writing process.
