IDIS 340 Manufacturer Distributor Relations

College: College of Engineering
Department: Industrial and Systems Engineering
Type: W
Status: Approved

REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: IDIS 340

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/22 to 1/1/26

We recommend that IDIS 340 Manufacturer Distributor Relations be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 47% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 4250; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:20; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.

This course is taught with two instructors and a graduate assistant. It is grandfathered for collaborative writing; 35% of the final grade and 2000 words are for individual papers researching a distributor or industry. This is peer reviewed and receives instructor feedback in a formal process that includes student revision, although the revision is not included in the word count or percentage total above. They also write a group project in which they assess a current distributor. Instruction covers how to do research and manage a project and how to write a report in a style appropriate to business. The University Writing Center also provides a workshop.
