EVEN 400 Design Problems in Environmental Engineering
College: College of Engineering
Department: Civil Engineering
Type: C
Status: Approved
REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF C COURSE: EVEN 400
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/23 to 9/1/27
We recommend that EVEN 400 Design Problems in Environmental Engineering I be certified as a Communication (C) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 50% of the final grade is based on writing and speaking quality; (2) the total number of words is 1250; (3) the total minutes of performance is 10; (4) the instructor to student ratio is 1:10; and (5) the assigned writing and speaking are appropriate to the major.
EVEN 400 is a two-credit course. It is not grandfathered for collaboration, so the totals above reflect individual work. Students write a cover letter, a project proposal, and two technical memos; they also do a presentation for their part of the final group project. Drafts of each writing assignment are reviewed by the instructor and assistant and given formative feedback. For formative feedback on speaking, they provide comments on slides. Guidelines for how to write each deliverable are provided in Canvas and explained in class as needed.
