REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: EVEN 201
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/23 to 9/1/27
We recommend that EVEN 201 Introduction to the Environmental Engineering Program be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 85% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 2500; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:18; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
This is a one-credit course. Students write a cover letter, professional summary, and a white paper or Op-Ed. All three writing assignments receive peer review and one-to-one coaching on drafts. Students have the opportunity to revise and resubmit at least one of their writing assignments for an improved grade. Reading and discussion of models contributions to instruction. Lectures are given on writing topics such as plagiarism, writing lab reports and resumes, summarizing, and selecting sources.
