Status: Approved

REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: ESET 219

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/22 to 9/1/26

We recommend that ESET 219 Digital Electronics be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 30% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 8000; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:27; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.

ESET 219 is a 4-credit hour course. Two graduate assistants are responsible, with the assistance of an instructor, for cohorts of 20 students each, for a total of 80 students. Students write five lab reports, which are graded and returned in a timely manner so that feedback from one can be applied to the next. They also are given instruction after each is graded. A detailed lab format guide that includes presenting graphics is provided for instruction, and common issues that require feedback are covered in class. The University Writing Center lectures on technical writing issues.
