ECON 459 Games and Economic Behavior
College: Arts and Sciences
Department: Economics
Type: W
Status: Approved
REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: ECON 459
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/24 to 9/1/28
We recommend that ECON 459 Games and Economic Behavior be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 45% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 2,500 (minus the rough draft); (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:25; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
ECON 459’s writing component consists of a proposal, a rough draft, and final paper. Comments on the proposal and rough draft serve as formative feedback on the final draft; students can also receive formative feedback via office conferences and during in-class writing exercises that focus on drafting portions of these assignments. Beyond this, students also receive writing instruction via 1-2 classes that focus on drafting and organizing a paper.
