REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: COMM 476
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/23 to 1/1/27
We recommend that COMM 476 Advanced Social Media be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 35% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 2000; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:24; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
COMM 476 requires that students write a research paper in the form of a blog. Formative feedback occurs with rubric-based peer review of a draft of the blog. Instruction occurs with four writing workshops throughout the semester on selecting and proposing a topic; writing for social media; blog writing, copyright, and plagiarism; and how to review a peer’s paper.
