REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF C COURSE: ANSC 412
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/25 to 1/1/29
We recommend that ANSC 412 Swing Production and Management be certified as a Communication (C) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 30.1% of the final grade is based on writing and speaking quality; (2) the total number of words is 2,750; (3) the total minutes of performance is 8; (4) the instructor to student ratio is 1:18; and (5) the assigned writing and speaking are appropriate to the major.
ANSC 412’s writing component consists of a scientific article summary, a popular news article summary, and an extension project scaffolded into an outline, rough draft, and final draft. The speaking component consists of an 8-minute presentation on the extension project. Formative feedback is provided on the extension final draft and presentation based prior assignments and the rubric discussed in the proposal. Writing instruction takes place over multiple lab sessions with instructor guidance and case study examples.
