REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: AGSC 402
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/25 to 1/1/29
We recommend that AGSC 402 Designing Instruction for Secondary Agricultural Science Programs be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 47.5% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 9,500; (3) the instructor to student ratio is at least 1:16; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
AGSC 402’s writing component consists of four microteaching lesson plans and discussions, a scope and sequence assignment, a complete unit of instruction, and a microteaching reflection and discussion board. Formative feedback is provided on all four of the lesson plans via peer and instructor comments, which students then revise and resubmit for the final. Re: writing instruction, one class is devoted to writing concisely with Purdue OWL’s resource as the focus, models of good writing in the field are provided in class, and UWC writing guides are provided to the students as well.
