CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 9/1/24 to 9/1/28
We recommend that AGEC 117 Critical Thinking and Decision Making in Agricultural Economics be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 100% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 2,250 (this is the total after removing the 750 word draft assignment); (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:25; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.
AGEC 117 is a one-credit course whose lecture time focuses predominantly on writing instruction. This instruction covers a variety of topics: paper sections, how to write in multiple genres, how to respond to criticism, conducting research, etc. Students receive formative feedback from the graduate instructors on their rough drafts, with the opportunity to submit subsequent drafts for additional feedback.
