Words of Wisdom

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it short.

— Blaise Pascal

We offer workshops to help graduate students enhance their communication skills as part of the G.R.A.D. Aggies Professional Development Certificate, offered by the Graduate School. Students participating in the certificate program will be able to earn one Professional Development Unit (PDU) toward their certificate when they attend one of the workshops.

The workshops are held during the fall and spring semesters.I

Graduate Workshop Schedule -- Spring 2023

Registration for UWC graduate student workshops will be held through Zoom this semester. Learn more about and register for any or all of the four spring 2023 workshops below.

Abstracts

Wednesday, March 1st, from 3 to 4 p.m. (via Zoom)
Presented by Nancy Vazquez, University Writing Center Director

Abstracts are a staple of academic communication. While abstracts can be difficult to write, they allow readers to focus on those articles, dissertations, or presentations that are essential to their own research. So knowing how to write one--how to attract the right readers and stay within the word count--is an important skill to develop.

Once you register to attend the abstracts workshop, you'll receive the Zoom link automatically to your TAMU email.

Introductions & Conclusions

Wednesday, March 8th, from 3 to 4 p.m. (via Zoom)
Presented by Nancy Vazquez, University Writing Center Director

Lots of writers struggle with knowing how to start or end a document. How much detail do you need in the introduction to a journal article? How do you end your dissertation without merely repeating yourself? This virtual workshop will demystify the process of beginning and ending any piece of writing.

Once you register to attend this intro and conclusion workshop you'll receive the Zoom link automatically to your TAMU email.

Posters & Presentations

Wednesday, March 22nd, from 3 to 4 p.m. (via Zoom)
Presented by Florence Davies, University Writing Center Assistant Director

Getting ready for a conference? This workshop will help you learn techniques for creating and delivering posters and presentations. We'll help you conquer your nerves about public speaking and create memorable graphics that tell the story of your research in a compelling visual format.

Once you register to attend this posters and presentation workshop, you'll receive the Zoom link automatically in your TAMU email.

Letters of Recommendation

Wednesday, March 29th, from 3 to 4 p.m. (via Zoom)
Presented by Nancy Vazquez, University Writing Center Director

Both sides of the letter of recommendation process can be difficult. When you're writing a letter for a student or colleague, it can be hard to know what kind of details to provide and how much (or how little) to say. Likewise, when you need to ask your advisor or another instructor for a letter for yourself, you may feel awkward and hesitant. We'll offer tips to help both the giver AND the receiver in the letter of recommendation equation.

Once you register to attend this letters of recommendation workshop, you'll receive the Zoom link automatically in your TAMU email.

Registration for all workshops will remain open until full.
