ANSC 414 Sheep and Goat Production

College: Agriculture and Life Sciences
Department: Animal Science
Type: W
Status: Approved

REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: ANSC 414

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/24 to 1/1/28

We recommend that ANSC 414 Sheep and Goat Production Management be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 26% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 6000; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:12; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.

ANSC 414 is a four-credit course that is grandfathered for collaboration. There are three assignments related to the course content written individually (3000 words) and one major project written collaboratively (3000 words). The collaborative paper uses text from the first three papers and combines them into one on the entire sheep and goat production system. Each of these assignments is peer reviewed and instructor reviewed in draft form. Two class periods are devoted to collaborative writing. Several lectures cover writing and include the use of guest lecturers to discuss discipline-specific researched writing.
