REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: ALED 440

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/22 to 1/1/26

We recommend that ALED 440 Leading Change be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 74% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 2500; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:24; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.

Four GATs help with this course. Student write five short reflections and two papers, one on change and one on innovation. The paper on change is peer reviewed, and the five reflections are graded and returned in a timely fashion so that students can improve with each effort. The instructor lectures on APA writing style and citations as well as on other issues related to writing.
