Status: Approved

REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: AGSM 439

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: 1/1/23 to 1/1/27

We recommend that AGSM 439 Management of Agricultural Systems I be certified as a writing (W) course. We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria: (1) 83.3% of the final grade is based on writing quality; (2) the total number of words is 3000 individual and 8000 collaboratives; (3) the instructor to student ratio is 1:15; and (4) the assigned writing is appropriate to the major.

One graduate assistant helps with this course, and it is team taught. It is grandfathered for collaborative writing. Individually, students write a project definition paper, one section of the final report, and a project description (59.6% of the final grade). They work collaboratively to put together a final report (26.7%). Each of the three individually written assignments are submitted in draft form and given instructor feedback. Instruction takes the form of lectures, reviews of example documents, and in-class writing exercises.
