Episode 23 – Video on How to Make a Writing Center Appointment Online

May 2009

MEGHAN: Howdy Ags, I’m Meghan Wall and welcome to “Write Right.” Today I’m going to show you how easy it is to make a writing center appointment online. You can make an appointment from any computer; you do not need to be on campus or at the writing center.

First, go to writingcenter.tamu.edu. Click on the Make an Appointment tab at the top of the page. Then click on make appointments online. This will take you to the opening screen of the writing center’s appointment scheduling system. Click continue.

Next enter your Net ID and Password and click enter. This brings you to the appointment calendar. The first step is to choose from our two locations using the drop down menu at the top left. You can either select the Evans Library or West Campus.

Then you can browse a list of available appointment times. If you don’t see an appointment that works with your schedule on that day use the blue arrows at the bottom of the screen to select another day. When you find an appointment time that will work, select it by clicking on the green arrow under book an appointment. This brings you to the Appointment Details page.

First, answer what you are writing and why?  Here you can describe your assignment and the areas you specifically need help with, whether it is forming a thesis statement, grammar, or organization. For example: I’m writing a research paper on Native Americans in Hollywood Films and I need help forming research questions, selecting scholarly sources, writing an abstract, doing citations and footnotes.

Next, answer if this is an assignment for class, what are the requirements?  Here you can mention what class the assignment is for and what directions or prompt you have been given. Cite any specific requirements such as citation style or type of resources.  For example: My assignment is for my English course entitled Life and Literature of the Southwest and I am required to have scholarly sources and use MLA style and footnotes.

Next, select the course the assignment is for from the drop down menu below. Select if this is a group assignment and if English is not your native language by checking on the boxes to the left. Once you have answered all of the questions select Submit Answers and Book Appointment.

You can then view a report of your appointment details. An email with the same information will be sent to your TAMU account. If you are done select log out. If you need to cancel your appointment select schedule and then cancel appointment underneath My Future Appointments.

If you need to reschedule your appointment you will be prompted to call the writing center at 979-458-1455 where they can change your appointment time for you without you having to make a new appointment.

Well now you know how to easily book and cancel appointments online. Tune in next time where we will show you how to submit a paper to our online writing lab. Thanks for listening to “Write Right.” Goodbye.
