Proposal Form for W Course Approval |
It is assumed that course syllabi approved as W will be representative (in regards to writing instruction and assignments) of all sections of that course taught to fulfill the writing graduation requirement.
Instructions:

Download the W Course Proposal Form (MS Word format) and the W Course Status Form. Use the W Course Proposal Form the first time a course is proposed for W status. If you need an approved course recertifiied, go to Recertification for W Course.

Fill out the W Course Proposal Form completely.

Fill out the W Course Status Form. See #6 below for submission instructions.

Send the completed W Course Proposal Form and the course syllabus via email attachment to Dr. Valerie Balester (v-balester@tamu.edu). Syllabi submitted should conform to standards outlined by the University.

You have the option of sending a copy to your college representative on the W Course Advisory Committee for preliminary review and comment.

The W Course Status Form needs to be printed and signed by the College Dean, Department Head, and Course Instructor. After receiving signatures the form should be sent to the University Writing Center, MS 5000.
The W Course Advisory Committee Chair will bring your proposal and syllabus before the W Course Advisory Committee. If you have questions about filling out this form, consult Dr. Valerie Balester ( v-balester@tamu.edu or 458-1420). You may also refer to the Checklist of W Course Requirements, the Rubric for Evaluating W Course Proposals, and Minimum Syllabus Requirements for more information. In addition, every college has a representative on the W Course Advisory Committee who can help with your proposal or answer questions.
You will be contacted about the W Course Advisory Committee agenda and invited to attend a meeting to answer questions about your proposal. You may send a representative who is familiar with the course and the proposal. It is not necessary to present a formal proposal. Every presenter will have 15 minutes allotted to his or her proposal.
In the event that your proposal is rejected, the committee will provide an explanation and suggestions for revision and resubmission.
Deadline Note: Courses to be included in the Fall 2007-08 Online Course Schedule should be submitted by February 1, 2007. Courses submitted after February 1, 2007 may not be approved in time for 2007-08. To have a course approved by Spring 2008, submit it by April 1, 2007.
