Black Box Residency Application

Words of Wisdom

The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon. You can always do it better, find the exact word, the apt phrase, the leaping simile.

— Robert Cormier

Please complete the following application to receive full consideration for The Black Box Writer Residency program. Regretfully, incomplete applications will not move forward in the process.

The Black Box Writer Residency Program Overview

Residency Attendance Policy

This short residency is ongoing for six weeks during the Spring 2018 semester. It is divided into two residency experiences: one for prose and one for poetry. Each section consists of the following:
  • three full-length writing workshops in either prose or poetry with UWC staff, TAMU faculty or visiting writers, and residents.
  • one full-length performance and speaking workshop for both prose or poetry, and
  • a final performance that features all residency writers, visiting writers and faculty, and invited guests (also open to the public).
Due to the short duration of the Residency, it is mandatory that participants be available to attend all six of the sessions for their respective genres, either prose or poetry. These workshops will mostly take place on Saturdays, from either 10-12 pm or 1-3/4 pm. The black box space is located at Hullabaloo Hall in Fine Arts RM 131, Building D.
