REPORT ON RECERTIFICATION OF W COURSE: AGCJ 314

We recommend that AGCJ 314 Agricultural Media Writing II be certified as a writing (W) course for four academic years (9/17 to 9/21). We have reviewed a representative syllabus and have determined that the course meets or exceeds the following criteria:

  1. Percentage of final grade based on writing quality: 80%
  2. Course content appropriate to the major
  3. Total number of words: 7700
  4. Instructor to student ratio for one section: 1:24
For AGCJ 314, students write a critical review, an informative or persuasive piece, a personality profile, and 28 lab assignments (2 per week). For the critical review, the informative or persuasive piece, and the personality profile, students get formative feedback from a peer review on a draft; in addition, all of them can be revised after grading for partial credit. Instruction is frequent because this is a writing course; it includes lecture, discussion of current samples, readings from a writing textbook and style manual, and practice.

No significant changes have been made since original certification was granted.
