Florence Davies joined the Texas A&M University Writing in 2013. She received a B.A. in English from Texas A&M in 2009 and an MFA in Writing & Literature from Stony Brook University in 2013. As a writer, she’s screened for Callaloo, taught for the non-profit Writers in the Schools (WITS), and regularly judges manuscript contests for online publications and the Texas A&M Department of English. Florence’s creative work centers the unique and beautiful multitudes of young Black girls and women. She is currently working on second novel about a Black teen witch.

In her role as Assistant Director, Flo coordinates the writing center’s tutor training program and certifies the center through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). She also manages the writing center’s media team and marketing, including content for the UWC’s popular YouTube channel.

Favorite writing strategy: I love timed writing sprints. Get a phone timer and set up 30 minutes of writing time and then a 10-minute break. Then, repeat! Giving yourself room for distraction can actually help you focus better. They also have digital timers online, and if you like assigning tasks, try the Pomodoro Technique.
